One cold winter's night, as Chrissy anxiously watches out the window for her father to return, Grandfather passes the time by telling her tall tales about really cold winters that he remembers.

Jesse and her friend, Eleven, are riding in the trailer behind Jesse's dad's bike.  Jesse is having fun, but Eleven is scared ... of bears, of going over high bridges, of going up mountains.  Jesse finds ways to comfort Eleven, but keeping Eleven happy creates other problems...

When Jesse first meets, the ocean she doesn't like it much, but eventually she comes to appreciate its charms. Then it is time to go home... far from the ocean...
