WHY DOES QUEEN ELIZABETH LOOK SO SAD?

Read on and find out how to make her deliriously happy again...

This simple optical illusion can be created with any image of a face. (You have to fold the image, so don't use your graduation photo, your sister's baby picture out of the family album or the image on a coin.) You used to be able to do this with a dollar bill, but those days are gone... another piece of currency with a face on it (full or three quarter facing) will work, though. For the example presented here, I printed out a scanned image of myself (when I was in Grade Two...).

Fold the image backwards along a line running through the pupil of one eye. Open that fold, and make a second fold on a parallel line running through the other pupil. Bring the edges of the folds together and crease the image so that there is a "valley" between the two eyes.

If you tilt the top of the folded image toward yourself, the corners of the mouth will appear to droop and the eyebrows will pull down and the face will look soooo... sad. Tilt the top of the image away from you, and the face is transformed -- the corners of the mouth turn up, the eyebrows lift and everyone is very, very happy again!

Go ahead, then -- put a smile on the old girl's face.
